During the meeting with the Ukrainian community of Portugal, President Petro Poroshenko noted that the country had made a series of important reforms over the past three years and restored the army.

Poroshenko thanked Ukrainians of Portugal for their solidarity with Ukraine and assured of his commitment to continuing reforms in the country. "We will do everything for the great Ukrainian people to return to the European family. We will be in the EU and we will be in NATO. We will win, because God is with us and the truth is with us," Petro Poroshenko said.

"Ukraine became more independent. Ukraine became stronger. Ukraine became more European-oriented. Civil society emerged in Ukraine, a volunteer movement emerged in Ukraine, and we conducted an absolutely unprecedented reform program," the Head of State stressed.

Petro Poroshenko thanked those who supported the Ukrainian army at different times. "Those of you who were volunteers, who helped the army, who tried to take steps to send, support or have wounded soldiers in order to provide them with rehabilitation assistance. It was very important for us and I, as President, would like to thank each of you for this absolutely vital help," he said.

The Head of State also noted the active role of the Ukrainian community in the decision of the Portuguese Parliament to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. "This was a strategic decision that helped us spread this recognition around the world," the President said.

In the framework of the official visit to Portugal, Poroshenko met with Prime Minister of Portugal António Costa.

Petro Poroshenko shared impressions from today's meetings with the leadership of Portugal and stated: our countries are very close. He assured that Portuguese people can always count on Ukrainians.

The interlocutors agreed on the availability of significant opportunities for intensifying trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Portugal. In this context, the prospects for implementing joint projects in various spheres were discussed.

The parties agreed to intensify cooperation in energy, shipbuilding, aviation, as well as culture and tourism.

They also agreed to resume regular direct flights between Kyiv and Lisbon.
