The current head of Russia Putin has confirmed that he will seek another term in office in next year’s presidential election.

The 2018 Russian presidential election will take place on 18 March 2018. The upcoming election will be the fourth in Putin’s political career. He held the office of president for two terms from 2000 to 2008, and served as prime minister from 2008 to 2012. Putin then won a third term as president in 2012.

“Yes, I will run as a candidate for the Russian presidency,”  Putin finally shared his intention. 

The first round of presidential election will be held on Sunday 18 March 2018. If in the first round no candidate attains an absolute majority of the votes (more than half), then according to the law, a second round will take place exactly three weeks later, on 8 April 2018.

Putin may decide to run as an independent candidate.
