The IOC officials decided to suspend Russia from the competition, which is slated for February 2018.

The International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board on Tuesday, December 5 held a session in Lausanne, Switzerland and discussed the report by Dennis Oswald and Samuel Schmid on the facts of use of doping by the Russian athletes in 2014 – as well as the Russian government’s involvement in the doping program. Over 17 months of extensive work, the Commission gathered evidence and information and held hearings with all the main actors.

The Executive Committee took decision on Russian Olympic team’s participation in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

After discussing and approving the Schmid Report, the IOC EB decided: “To suspend the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) with immediate effect.”. 

The athletes who appeared to have passed the test for banned substances will be able to perform during the Games/

“These invited athletes will participate, be it in individual or team competitions, under the name ‘Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR)’. They will compete with a uniform bearing this name and under the Olympic Flag. The Olympic Anthem will be played in any ceremony,” the statement says.
