Ukraine expects that Turkey will participate in the international group on Crimea de-occupation, as President Petro Poroshenko said in a briefing after his meeting with President of Turkey Recep Erdogan, broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.

“Unfortunately, despite all peace-making initiatives and efforts, including the Normandy Format, Russian aggression against Ukraine and occupation of the Ukrainian Crimea are ongoing. With President Erdogan, we noted the inadmissibility of the state of human rights in Crimea, which is constantly getting worse due to the repressive actions of the occupational power. Searches and detentions, oppression and persecution, harassment and expelling everyone who doesn’t agree with the occupation or policy of invaders have, unfortunately, become a reality in the occupied Crimea,” Poroshenko said.

According to the President, Crimean Tatars and representatives of the Crimean Tatar Meijlis are heavily oppressed in the occupied territories.

He also emphasized that Ukraine and Turkey agreed to continue coordinating their actions on defending rights and freedoms of the Ukrainian citizens through international mechanisms, including monitoring missions.

“We are also expecting Turkey to participate in the international group on Crimea de-occupation, the idea of which I presented from the UN podium in New York,” he said.
