The Head of State held a meeting on the development of rural medicine and the implementation of the healthcare reform.

“We cannot further delay the situation with the medical reform. This is also an issue of the national security of the state. A significant part of the Ukrainian nation is simply deprived of the right to receive high-quality medical services, as the inefficient Soviet system has been conserved,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

The Head of State reminded that the Government had elaborated a draft medical reform. According to him, if the professional environment has any remarks regarding this project or there are certain flaws in it, there is a procedure of discussion for the elimination of such flaws.

The President noted that pursuant to his decision, the issue of the healthcare reform had been submitted for consideration by the National Council of Reforms. The Parliament has revised this project together with the representatives of the Government, specialized committee, NGOs and has made substantial amendments.

“The National Council of Reforms has approved the given draft and I would like to address our people’s deputies, not only those from the coalition, to make every effort to avoid delaying the adoption of the medical reform,” the Head of State said.

The President noted that criticism, comments and suggestions to the draft could be expressed and will be taken into account as much as possible. “But the worst possible decision is to freeze the status quo,” he said.

The Head of State also noted that a significant component of the medical reform was the improvement of the level of rural medicine.
