President Petro Poroshenko noted that in the annual Address to the Parliament significant attention is paid to positive changes. “I would like every person who watches or listens to us to be sure: the country, which the enemy three years ago hoped to wipe off the political map of the world, not only defended itself, not only survived, but also found strength to change and move forward. People who demonstrated such a wonderful will power to the whole world have the right to be proud of themselves,” the Head of State emphasized.

At the same time, he said, problems need more attention than achievements, because it is a fact that society is still dissatisfied with life and authorities. “Under conditions of external aggression and economic crisis, bitter losses and considerable material damage, a sense of justice is stronger than ever,” the President said.

“People believe that by the fact that they have endured it all, understood the difficulties, they faithfully fulfill their part of the social contract. You cannot say the same about the authorities who, according to common opinion, put on the altar of the common victory too little and did not provide visible changes. Mistrust of state institutions - new and old, politicians - power and opposition, grows into deep despair, apathy and depression. To eliminate this danger, we must act immediately and quickly, give a second breath to the fight against corruption and economic transformation,” the Head of State emphasized adding that it is necessary to eliminate any grounds to discussions about the alleged rollback of reforms and the onset of counter-revolution.

The Head of State noted that there were occasions when the absence or slow pace of reforms preserved the backwardness of countries, left them on the brink of world progress. “There is even worse prospect: without the completion of reforms, we risk losing statehood and we will simply disappear. But this is a pessimistic scenario, and I do not believe in it and will not allow it. Our scenario is optimistic, and the name of this scenario is: "A successful European Ukraine of successful Ukrainians," the President noted.

Petro Poroshenko reminded that in a year the country will enter the election campaign. “In spring 2019 we will have the presidential elections, in autumn 2019 we will have parliamentary elections. Thus, we have only one year left to work over the reforms actively,” he stressed.
