President Petro Poroshenko urged the Ukrainian Parliament to coordinate and make amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine as regards the abolition of parliamentary immunity.

Petro Poroshenko noted that there are still two years to come until the end of the present cadency, but the Parliament has already set an absolute record of effective voting on deprivation of parliamentary immunity. “For the first time, appeals are submitted not only against oppositionists or non-factional deputies, but also against members of the ruling parties and the ruling coalition,” he said.

“I urge to coordinate and submit amendments to the Constitution that abolish parliamentary immunity,” the Head of State addressed the MPs.

“To make it easier for you so that you do not have a feeling that this decision is directed against you, I have a simple suggestion – let’s adopt this decision with its entry into force on January 1, 2020, for the people’s deputies of the new Parliament. Probably, it will be more effective,” the President noted.
