Ukraine resolutely condemns the recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile by the DPRK, which posed a serious threat to neighboring Japan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"The launch represents yet another serious challenge to all nations in the region and to regional stability, as it brazenly defies diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution to the security challenges on the Korean Peninsula," according to a statement posted on the ministry's website on Tuesday, August 29.

"Ukraine aligns itself with all states, who have condemned this dangerous act of Pyongyang and calls upon the DPRK leadership to stop their provocations immediately and restart dialog with the international community," it said.

The Ukrainian side also called on the UN Security Council to expand and toughen sanctions against North Korea if the provocations continue.

"Continued missile launches by Pyongyang are deliberate and systematic attacks on international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the North Korean missile program, especially following the unanimous adoption of UNSC resolution 2371 (2017)," it said.
