Head of the Ukrainian state Petro Poroshenko will bring up the issue of deploying the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas. This topic is going to be the major one during his speech at the UN General Assembly session, which is scheduled for September.

The issue of deployment of UN peacekeeping mission and the OSCE armed mission is a tough spot, and the discussion moves slow. It is about Russia’s stubborn unwillingness, the refusal to bring peace to Donbas or to leave Ukraine alone. But a river cuts through rock, which is why I’m going to present this idea at the next month’s session of the UN General Assembly,’ the president said.

‘Yes, the aggressor country is the permanent member of the UN Security Council, and it holds the veto right. But this does not mean who should give up; besides, keeping up with it would be the right thing to do. Ukraine remains one of the largest contributors to the UN peacekeeping activity. This will once again show who is who, especially if Russia will once again use its veto right, like it did to our initiative to create the MH17 international tribunal,’ Poroshenko stressed.
