The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine filed an appeal to the international arbitration due to the building of the Kerch Strait Bridge. A lot of ships cannot sail through the Kerch Strait after the building due to the deep draft and the losses of the Ukrainian state ports will equal to 19.3 million of dollars during the 23-days restriction of the shipping traffic. The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan claimed this at 112 Ukraine.

'The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine sent to Russia the protest note in July but there is no response s we filed the appeal to the international arbitration. The restriction of shipping traffic contradicts the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The speaker of the Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa also commented upon this situation.

'We work out the alternate routes but it is improper and we cannot match the aggressor all the time because this time it wants to build the bridge and the next time it will want to build a dam. At the moment, we work with the Ministry of Justice to appeal to all international authorities to receive the certain answer that such situation is unacceptable', she noted.

The Foreign Ministry claimed that this case should be considered next year and it is not the only violation that they reported to the arbitration. The set of documents is prepared that is also going to appeal the building of the Kerch Strait Bridge.

The Ministry of Transport of Russia intends to close the Kerch Strait for 23 days in August and September 2017. The implementation of the restrictions on shipping traffic through the Kerch Strait due to the building of the bridge by Russia results in the losses of the Ukrainian ports.
