Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov says that biometric passport control of foreigners on the Ukrainian border should be launched no later than January 1, 2018, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

"An electronic pre-registration system will be implemented for Russian citizens who will travel to Ukraine," Turchynov said at a press conference after an NSDC meeting on Monday, July 10. The NSDC also proposes that mandatory registration at the place of stay in Ukraine should be introduced for Russians.

"All this – biometric passports, border control, preliminary registration, control during the stay and monitoring of relocation in Ukrainian territory – should go along with a program, which should be developed by the Cabinet," Turchynov said answering journalists' questions.
