Russian diplomat becomes chief of UN Counter-terrorism Office

Vladimir Voronkov, the representative of Russia of international organizations in Vienna became the head of the recently created Counter-terrorism Office of the United Nations. The UN news center reported this.

Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General appointed Voronkov to be his deputy and the Russian diplomat will chief 38 departments and organizations that deal with terrorism sphere.

The leader of UN noted, that in the presence of Voronkov, the permanent delegation of Russia initiated a few successful projects, including the fight against terrorism, that were implemented by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

Voronkov was a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Head of Russian Delegation at the session of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

The UN Counter-terrorism Office was established on June 16. The new office aims to fight against terrorism and conditions that further the spread of it.
