Two Russian opposition figures from the party of Alexei Navalny asked for political asylum in Ukraine during border control. This was reported by the press service of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

"Men arrived at the checkpoint and after showing the foreign passports of Russian Federation, immediately expressed their intention to receive protection at Ukrainian territory due to political harassment in Russia," State Border Guard Service informs.

It was established during the screening, conducted along with SSU officers, that the citizens are related to the opposition bloc of Alexei Navalny and are persecuted for their political activity.

Both men were allowed to cross the border and were sent to the migration service.

As it was reported earlier, opposition leader Alexei Navalny was arrested on June 12 in Moscow for 30 days. Actions against corruption took place in dozens of Russian cities that day.
