Kyiv is officially inviting the European Union to develop a new format of relations with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin told a briefing at the Foreign Ministry on Friday, Europeiska Pravda reported.

Klimkin believes that after achieving visa liberalization with the EU, Ukraine becomes deprived of incentives within Eastern Partnership. "Ukraine, as well as Moldova and Georgia, deserves a new format for negotiations, the so-called enhanced association," he said.

The Minister also stressed that the dialogue with the EU regarding the new format was already underway.

"I discussed with the foreign ministers and this has a general support," Klimkin said. He also expects progress on this issue from the Eastern Partnership summit, which is to be held in Estonia.

The minister did not specify what would the status be of the "enhanced association," whether it would be about the expansion of the Eastern Partnership, and whether the new format foresees drafting a new agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on February 23, the Parliament of the Netherlands (the Second Chamber) upheld a government-proposed bill providing for a ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement. The document must be ratified by the First Chamber (Senate).
