President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov and thanked them for a marvelous work on the return of funds stolen by former senior officials. “It is very important that we finally do not hype our intentions, but report on the results. And the result is 40 billion hryvnias transferred to the state budget,” the President emphasized.

“What does it mean? It means that justice is restored. For every kopeck of these 40 billion hryvnias has been stolen from every citizen of our state and this moment is an act of justice on the return of these funds to the people of Ukraine. Transparent and efficient,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State stressed that it goes not only about funds. “It goes about conviction of criminals by the Ukrainian court even if they are hiding in the Russian Federation. That is why I ask you to keep up the pace and begin the court session against former President Yanukovych and his gang in the nearest time,” the President addressed the Prosecutor General.

“Of course, as President, I will address the Parliament. The Government will also put forward its proposals. And the parliamentary coalition, people’s deputies will adopt a crucially important decision, first of all, to enhance defense capability of our state,” he said. According to the President, it goes about the construction of the plant on the production of ammunition, as well as means of modern radio-electronic warfare, counterbattery radars, modern weapons for our land troops, equipment, construction of dormitories for contractors and military hotels for officers on the territory of every unit to provide decent service conditions for our defenders.

Petro Poroshenko also noted that the most vulnerable people must receive social support given the fact that those funds were stolen from every citizen. The given funds must also be allocated for the development of rural medicine, infrastructure projects etc. “These funds must not be wasted. They must be an investment in the future of Ukraine. I think that our distinguished MPs will hear me,” the President said.

The Head of State emphasized that the return of stolen funds is the fulfillment of obligations to Maidan. Just as the completion of ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, granting visa-free regime for Ukrainians and other extremely important decisions, as stated by the President.

The Head of State noted that it will not be the last decision on the return of stolen funds to Ukraine.

Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko informed the Head of State on the entry into force of the court’s decision to confiscate to the state budget about 40 billion hryvnias from the so-called “common fund of Yanukovych” formed by his minions in a criminal group. He noted that this decision of the court cannot be appealed and it is now being executed by the transfer of these funds from the blocked accounts of Oschadbank that belonged to the members of this criminal group to the state budget.

“These funds were stolen from every Ukrainian. We have been working hard for half a year for today’s result to be flawlessly implemented in legal plane,” Yuriy Lutsenko stressed.

The Prosecutor General also informed that on May 4, the trial of Yanukovych on the charge of treason will be started. He called this process unprecedented. “This process will differ from political show trials of Yanukovych’s period. This will be a fair process. I am sure that the sentence will be fair,” he said.

NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov noted that the Parliament could not approve the decision on the procedure of special confiscation of such funds for 1.5 years. However, prosecution “ensured the adoption of the final court decision without any PR”.

According to him, it is very important that part of these funds will be allocated for the state defense order and the funding of subjects of security and defense sector. “These funds are essential for the Armed Forces and other security structures to ensure defense and security of our country,” Oleksandr Turchynov said.
