A new anti-corruption body will be created within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to investigate the facts of power abuse by the PACE high command. The members of the Bureau of the PACE discussed the issue on the closed meeting today.

The Assembly President Pedro Agramunt is suspected of the lasting lobbying of Azerbaijani interests, being allegedly paid for that. The issue of Agramunt’s resignation is to be discussed as well; however, the impeachment is not stipulated by the order.

The reason for the scandal is Agramunt’s visit to Syria together with the Russian MPs on March 21. Earlier, the delegates from various countries questioned the rationale of Agramunt on the position of PACE President. He announced a break then and never returned to the meeting hall.
