President: This is the key element of decommunization in culture and cinematography

President Petro Poroshenko signed laws “On Ukrainian Cultural Fund” and “On State Support for Cinematography in Ukraine”. The Head of State expressed belief that the adoption and entry into force of these laws will be useful for Ukrainian cinema and culture, facilitate national-cultural development and raise national cinematography.

“It is very important for society to know that these laws provide for the introduction of modern models of competitive and transparent funding of cinema production in Ukraine, as well as other programs in the sphere of culture and art. There will be no more distribution of funds “under the carpet”,” Petro Poroshenko said at the meeting with representatives of Ukrainian culture, cinema and TV industry.

One of the key criteria for projects is lingual, according to the President. “There is a principled and clear position only products in Ukrainian language will have a right to support. The only exception is the language of Crimean Tatars given the situation of this people as result of the illegal annexation of Crimea,” he emphasized.

Support and development of Ukrainian cinema production will become an important part in the information war against the enemy, which is a component of the hybrid war Ukraine is forced to wage against the country-aggressor Russia, the President said. “We have restricted broadcast of Russian cinema on our market, for the majority of these products are filled with propaganda of the so-called “Russian world” that glorifies the aggressor and his security structures,” the Head of State noted.

The President thanked everyone involved in the process of elaboration of the two laws. “I think this is an irreversible Rubicon - Ukraine will never get back to the communist principles of culture management,” he said.

“This is a key element of decommunization in culture and cinematography. We should perceive it this way and tell people how important it is for them to feel the scale of this event and these amendments we’ve achieved,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
