European Broadcasting Union (EBU) does not exclude considering the possibility of Russia’s disqualification from Eurovision in 2018. This was reported by EBU’s official representative David Goodman to TASS.

At the same time, he clarified that such decision can be taken only after the event takes place in Kyiv.

"EBU’s attention is focused on this year’s contest. Any decision regarding the actions which may or may not be taken in this situation will be taken after the event itself," Goodman commented.

It is noteworthy that Russia, according to the contest rules, may be deprived of the right to send its representative at Eurovision next year due to refusal to broadcast the event this year.

Yesterday Russia’s Channel 1 refused to broadcast the contest to take place in Kyiv in May. EBU later reported that all attempts to settle the issue have failed — Russia denied all proposed options and will not participate in Eurovision-1027. It is noteworthy that Russia has already been suspended from Eurovision in 1999. Year before that Russian Federation also refused to broadcast the event.
