About 20 thousand foreign militants are fighting in Syria, almost half of them came from Russian Federation. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his interview for MIR agency.

“According to different estimates, about 20,000 foreign militants are fighting in Syria, almost 10,000 of them are from the CIS countries. Somewhere around nine thousand, by various estimates, slightly less than half of them are from Russia. About five thousand are from Central Asia. Mostly, they are from CSTO, by the way,” he said.

“At the same time, Putin expressed confidence that Russia's military actions in Syria should prevent the return of terrorists to Russian territory. “Our servicemen, our group, which is fighting with international terrorists on another territory, not in Russia, just so that no one can return here, or, if it happens sometimes, it proves once again that we made the right choice, And we must do everything to minimize their return,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that Putin said he won’t allow ‘color revolution’ in Russia, CSTO countries. Russian President stressed that such actions lead to serious destabilization.
