Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin called for reform of the UN Security Council to eliminate the abuse of the right of veto on the part of its permanent members.

Klimkin said this in a speech at the open debate in the UN Security Council at the ministerial level on the Conflicts in Europe, Radio Svoboda reports.

"The Security Council must be able to give an effective response to the bloody conflicts, regardless of the possible presence of parties to the conflict at the table, as a permanent member of the Security Council," Klimkin said.

According to him, in the future it is unacceptable that the Charter of the United Nations on "party to the conflict must refrain from voting" is "blatantly violated". It is necessary to introduce clear procedures to comply with this article, Klimkin stressed.

In his speech Foreign Minister drew attention to a number of conflicts in Europe, which were caused by the actions of "one state", which creates a lot of hot spots on the continent: starts a conflict to participate in it, supports it, and then undermines peace efforts instead of mediation in them.

"If the aggression of this state continues, one" frozen conflict "will become hot and aggressor state will create new threats and challenges in the stable points," Klimkin stressed.
