“Glory to Ukraine”: People kneeling at farewell ceremony for Avdiivka defenders on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv

The conflict escalated in Donbas as militants continuously shell Avdiivka.

People held a farewell ceremony on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv for seven Ukrainian soldiers of 72nd brigade who died defending Avdiivka. Four soldiers died in battles on January 29, another three – on January 30.

As of today we know the names of only four deceased officers:

Captain Kyzylo Andriy Oleksandrovych, Sergeant Balchenko Volodymyr Ivanovych, soldier Overchenko Dmytro Oleksandrovuch, Sergeant Kryzhanskyi Volodymyr Oleksiyovych.

A lot of people gathered on Maidan Nezalezhnosti, reported by 112 Ukraine TV channel. People were kneeling as they bid their farewells to the heros. After that everyone had the chance to put flowers on the graves. Military officers and the press officer of the same 72nd brigade held speeches.

People were also chanting “Glory to Ukraine” and 'Heroes do not die’ during the ceremony.
