Rep. Mike Pompeo, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's choice to lead the CIA, acknowledged before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Thursday that Russia has invaded Ukraine, listing Vladimir Putin's state as one of the leading threats to the United States, according to USA Today, reported Unian.

"Russia has reasserted itself aggressively, invading and occupying Ukraine, threatening Europe, and doing nearly nothing to aid in the destruction and defeat of ISIS," Pompeo said.

Pompeo also said that he agreed with the conclusions of U.S. intelligence that the Russian Federation was behind the cyber attacks to influence American elections.

He is a member of the Tea Party movement within the Republican Party. He was a Kansas representative on the Republican National Committee. On November 18, 2016, he was selected by President-elect Donald Trump to be Trump's nominee for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
