President Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to President of Poland Andrzej Duda for hospitality and reminded that the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Poland is celebrated on December 2.

The Head of State noted the importance of today’s negotiations in Warsaw. “Poland is not only a strategic partner for us, but also a great friend, just as President Andrzej Duda is a friend of mine,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized at the joint briefing with the President of Poland.

The President expressed special gratitude for the support of the Ukrainian nation in the struggle against the aggressor. “It is important that the world has finally started to speak the same language with Ukraine calling the aggression of Russia in the east of our country – aggression. Illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula – annexation. And demonstrating absolutely clear and strong solidarity with the position of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

The Heads of State agreed to conduct the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in spring 2017 and provided respective instructions to the co-heads of the commission.

Petro Poroshenko particularly underscored the efficient Ukraine-Poland cooperation in the development of border infrastructure. The President thanked the Government of Poland for the allocation of the loan in the amount of USD 100 million with 0.15% APR for 30 years with 5 years of soft loan for the construction of infrastructure, roads and checkpoints. According to him, 4 checkpoints will be constructed in addition to 4 already operating. “This will reduce queues on the Ukraine-Poland border. Especially given prompt provision of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians,” the Head of State said.

The President is confident that coordinated work will lead to the improvement of interpersonal contacts as well. “Local border traffic between our countries means that we already have the visa-free regime between our countries. Ukrainians travel to Poland and Poles travel to Ukraine without causing any problems. I am sure that the given experience must be spread all over the EU,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

In his turn, Andrzej Duda emphasized: “Again, some people are trying to divide Europe into the areas of influence violating territorial integrity of independent sovereign Ukraine. I am confident that not only Poland, but also the entire global community will not agree with this fact. Poland stands by Ukraine today”. According to him, a great task of Europe and the world is to resolve the situation in Ukraine not by freezing the conflict, but by returning control over the whole border to Ukraine.

The President of Poland assured of further support for the Ukrainian reforms. Petro Poroshenko thanked for this support adding that the Ukrainian decentralization was based on the Polish model. “I am sure that your experience and advises will be extremely useful for local authorities,” he said.

The Presidents praised the signature of the Agreement on Defense Cooperation. Petro Poroshenko noted efficient military-technical cooperation. According to him, the implementation of the joint Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade is an example of efficient military cooperation and coordination of actions in the sphere of security.

The President of Poland is hopeful that due to cooperation with Foreign Ministers, it will soon be possible to initiate the introduction of the joint Ukrainian-Polish institution of good neighborhood, which will build the real atmosphere of reconciliation and historical truth between the two nations.
