President Petro Poroshenko visited Kolodnytsya gas field in Stryi district, Lviv region to take part in launching gas production.

The President noted that Ukrainians had always dreamed about freedom and independence. This is what Ukrainian warriors fight for today on the frontline.

“Independence is not only a simple fact that we must escape from the embrace of the Russian Empire and walk our unique, Ukrainian path to the EU. Independence has a very important component we’ve been missing for 25 years – energy independence,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine had been kept on the gas hook for 25 years.

“No matter what mottos former authorities had, they came to power and started thinking about how to organize schemes of Russian gas supply,” the President added. He noted that Ukraine had managed to diversify energy supply sources and ensure reverse gas supply from Europe. Now, the priority is to develop Ukrainian gas production. “And we are not trying to monopolize through any state preferences. Finally, the state has turned its face to honest, genuine Ukrainian investors,” the Head of State said.

Petro Poroshenko also reminded that Ukraine had managed to increase the share of production in atomic energy. The President denied the threat of rolling blackouts in winter and assured that Ukraine would have enough gas in its underground storage facilities.

“It all ended in 2014. Despite war, we have built economically strong independence of our state,” Petro Poroshenko said.

At the same time, he noted that offers of Russians to supply gas to Ukraine were inadmissible.

“We will speak to you in Stockholm about the ways this gas contract has been concluded and unfair conditions for Ukraine in it,” the President noted.

The Head of State emphasized that energy independence and work of power engineers was as important as “courage of Ukrainian men on the frontline and work of Ukrainian diplomats on the formation of pro-Ukrainian global coalition”.
