Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Security of the European Parliament Anna Fotyga and MEPs. This was reported in the press service of the National Security Council.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the east of Ukraine and Russia's aggression against the country, 112 TV channel reports.

According to Turchynov, Russia-backed militants daily defiantly violate the Minsk agreements.

"Only for the current day two soldiers were killed and five wounded”, he said, adding that the Ukrainian positions are attacked from heavy weapons in breach of Minsk Agreements.

“Enemy attacks Ukraine’s positions from 152 mm howitzers and 120 mm mortars".

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine stressed that until the attacks by militants continue, "any speculation about Russia in Minsk is useless, and Putin's statements about wanting a peaceful settlement is a cynicism and misinformation. Under the guise of shelling there are constant attempts to break through Ukraine’s defense line and change the configuration of the demarcation line", he said, adding that all these attempts get stiff resistance from the Ukrainian armed forces.

According to Turchynov, the sanctions imposed several years ago only begin to show the actual results: "For this reason to talk about lifting or easing the sanctions would be to break the united front, which was formed in Europe against the aggressor-state - Russia".

"On the contrary, they need to be tightened to achieve a particular result - the liberation of the occupied territories, cease offensive military operations of the Russian Federation and the termination of the arms race, in which Russia is now".

Summing up, Turchynov stressed that for Ukraine there is no alternative to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. "Despite the continued aggression against our country and the economic difficulties, we continue to steadily move in this direction”.
