Work on the replacement of the Russian motors UTD-20 for Deutz TCD2013 L64V took only three months. The 6-cylinder turbocharged engine has an electronic control unit with a power of 330 hp able to be programmed to increase the power to 390 hp. At the same time UTD-20 engine has a capacity of only 300 hp. In addition, the German engine has significantly more resources, it is more quiet and more economical.
"Adaptation of the German Deutz engines in infantry fighting vehicles is another step in the program of import-substitution, which "Ukroboronprom" is working for". In the process of creation of BMP-1UMD special measures were carried out to increase the firepower, improve fire control, improve ergonomic and functional characteristics of the machine.
