Russia's rep to UN Vitaly Churkin criticized report, claiming it doesn't contain any specific details

Moscow has supported its ally Bashar al-Assad and slammed the UN report which holds the Syrian government forces responsible for using chemical weapons, banned by the United Nations, Ukraine Today reports.

Russian permanent representative to the UN Security Council, Vitaly Churkin refused to acknowledge the facts, listed in the document. He also turned down the US and other countries' demands, namely the UK and France, that the chemical attacks should be condemned and punished.

'The report doesn't provide any names, no specific details, no fingerprints, no persons to impose sanctions against', Churkin claimed, while agreeing that the chlorine gas attacks likely took place.

Syrian rep to the UNSC also dismissed the allegations and claimed that the UN committee didn't have any 'material evidence'.

Russian position triggered heavy criticism from the Human Rights Watch, which said Moscow hindered the work of the Security Council and blocked the dispute from being taken to court.

On August 24 UN committee stated that both Syrian forces and the Islamic state used chemical weapons during the battles in 2014-2015.
