Lutsenko names grounds for Yefremov's detention, including participation in creating LPR

Former Regions Party faction head Oleksandr Yefremov is suspected of taking deliberate actions to change the boundaries of the territory of Ukraine, assist in the creation of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) terrorist organization and misappropriation of the Lyhanskvuhillia coal mining state enterprise through the abuse of his official position, Unian reports.

'The reason for the detention was the presence of reasonable grounds to believe that he can escape in order to evade criminal responsibility,' Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Saturday, according to a UNIAN correspondent.

'Former Regions Party faction head Oleksandr Yefremov is suspected of committing a number of criminal offenses, namely, misappropriation of the Lyhanskvuhillia coal mining state enterprise through the abuse of official position under Part 5 Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, of committing deliberate actions to change the boundaries of the territory of Ukraine, violation of the Constitution resulting in the death of people and other serious consequences under Article 110 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and of committing organizational and other assistance in the creation of the LPR terrorist organization under Article 258-3 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,' Lutsenko said.
