Earlier Pavel Vinnik was the head of the military intelligence of Canada.

The ethnic Ukrainian Pavel Vinnik has become the new commander of the Canadian Ground Forces, Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Vashchuk writes in Twitter.

'Lt. Gen. Vinnik, the grandson of Ukrainian immigrants from Stryi, took command of the Canadian Army,' the ambassador wrote.

The appointment was approved on July 14. The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau reported this in Twitter and congratulated Vinnik on the appointment.

Earlier, Pavel Vinnik headed the military intelligence of Canada.

Vinnik is a military engineer. He has been serving the Canadian Armed Forces since 1981.

In 2009, he participated in a war in Afghanistan as part of the multinational command of the security forces as an aide to the commander who was responsible for the formation of the Afghan Ministry of Defense and the National Army.
