The IL-76 was sent to fight fire but was lost in Irkutsk. According to witnesses, it went to the east, towards Lake Baikal. Then they heard a sound of explosion.
On July 1, the IL-76 of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations that had been sent to fight forest fire in Irkutsk region disappeared from radars. After the water release it went to the east, and then there was an explosion, witnesses say.
The officials started an operation to search for the plane. Smoke over the areas makes it more difficult to fulfill this task.
Ten people were on board of the aircraft. It put down and disappeared from the radars in the area of high concentration of smoke.
More than 60 units of technical equipment and about 500 people were involved in the search operation.
