The success of the Brexit movement in the UK has given proponents of Texas independence a big boost
An American politician Mike Huckabee shared on Facebook:
'The idea of Texas withdrawing from the US has been around for years (not counting the aborted effort during the Civil War), and the success of the Brexit movement in the UK has given proponents of Texas independence a big boost. If Texas were an independent nation, it would have the world’s 9th largest economy; and as you can tell from recent Supreme Court battles, most Texans feel the government in Washington has as much in common with them as an octopus does with an armadillo.
No matter what you think of the Texit idea, you might be stunned by the numbers quoted in this article by the president of the Texas Nationalist Movement. For instance, he points out that Texas has to deal with a federal bureaucracy that imposes over 180,000 laws, rules and regulations administered by 440 agencies and commissions staffed by over 1.5 million people, nearly 90,000 of whom are paid more than the governor of Texas. Meanwhile, each Texan gets a say in choosing only four of those federal officials (two Senators, one Congress member and the President).
Say, come to think of it, those exact same numbers apply to every American citizen, from Hawaii to Maine. Maybe instead of Texas exiting the United States, the states need to start using that tiny electoral power to make the federal government exit the states’ business.
