There will be no elections in the Donbass in the nearest future and all the talks about their holding are nothing but some wishful thinking of certain political forces.

The occupied region is not ready to hold the elections, and the dangerous situation that still can be watched in the Donbass just proves this.

This position was voiced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on June 27 at a joint briefing with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, who has been on his official visit to Germany now.

'Germany continues to work on creation of the conditions to hold safe elections. They still cannot be held in the Donbass due to objective reasons.' Merkel stressed.

'The elections should be held only when there is absolute openness and an ability to come and to make a free choice. The current situation in the East of Ukraine isn’t conducive to the holding of elections there. Particularly, we have dozens of provocative attacks from militants on a daily basis,' Volodymyr Groysman noted.
