The Ukrainian head coach Mikhail Fomenko has resigned.
'What's the point to continue the cooperation, if we haven’t fulfilled our main task? I have taken full responsibility for the lack of results and resigned. At the same time, I am grateful to the Football Federation for the conditions it created for our work and preparations for the European Championship. Everything was just at the highest level,' the coach explained.
In addition, he apologized to Ukrainian fans for the fails during the championship.
Fomenko named two factors, which had led to the failure of the Ukrainian team.
'Firstly, there was no team, secondly, some players were not psychologically ready for the Euro,' he mentioned.
Fomenko’s resignation was caused by the failed actions of the Ukrainian team at Euro-2016. The team lost all the three group matches.
The winner of the Golden Ball of 2004 and the legendary striker of Dynamo, Milan and Chelsea Andriy Shevchenko will become the new head coach of the national team.
