Naftogaz is unsatisfied with the price offered by Gazprom.
Russia offered Ukraine a 'good' price for gas in the third quarter. This was stated by Gazprom’s deputy chairman Aleksandr Medvedev.
'Good (price for gas - Ed.), I’d buy it myself. Everything Ukraine should do is to make certain actions,' Medvedev said, without specifying whether Naftogaz will ask Gazprom about selling the gas.
In November 2015, Ukraine refused to buy Russian gas in favor of the European one. According to the Ukrainian authorities it’s much cheaper to buy Russian gas in Europe than in Russia itself.
But on June 7, Gazprom reported that they had received a letter from Naftogaz with the request to resume supplies of the Russian gas to Ukraine.
The head of Russian Ministry of Energy Aleksandr Novak offered Ukraine a price of $177 and described it as the most comfortable and appropriate to the market conditions.
Naftogaz refused to accept this offer as 'the cost of the European gas as of July was less than $173.'
