June 13. UKRAINE — General of the Army of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko, Chief of Ukrainian General Staff, checked the final phase of operational coordination of mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the International Peacekeeping and Security Centre (Lviv oblast) and Shyrokyi Lan range (Mykolaiv oblast).
Military units have undergone drills during several months before brigade tactical training with field firing after redeployment from the east of Ukraine.
The military accomplished combined tasks (offensive, defensive, under artillery fire, etc.) in dynamic tactical conditions. One of the most important tasks was working out the cooperation of mechanized units with other arms and services. Land Forces, Army aviation and Air Force units, infantry and artillery units acted together.
General of the Army of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko stressed that during tactical exercise the commanders should not count on working out the actions under the scenario as the real combat and battle were dynamic. It is necessary to understand tactically the capabilities of the unit and apply creative and efficient approach to decision-taking.
'The general evaluation of actions and skills is very positive,' V.Muzhenko remarked, 'The process of combat training is continuous so there are new forms and methods of use of our units. A main attention is paid to efficient command and control, efficiency, cooperation of arms and services and use of armament and equipment.'
Concerning the plans of combat training of troops, the Chief of General Staff mentioned the current threats were considered in the context of training. According to him, since the previous year the army has conducted about 20 brigade tactical drills and about 60 battalion tactical exercises.
In 2016, the process of armament modernization is scheduled. The Chief of General Staff also noted the infrastructure of military ranges used for personnel training would be developed and improved.
