Poroshenko has let foreigners serve in the army. The presidential decree approved the procedure for military service in the ranks of the AFU for foreigners.
Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on military service in the army for foreigners and stateless persons.
The decree will allow the foreigners and stateless persons faithfully and voluntarily do their duty to protect the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The decree is subject to those who still have not had military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but are in the army at the moment.
The main conditions for military service under the contract for foreigners are as follows:
recognition and obedience to the Constitution and laws of Ukraine;
legal staying on the territory of Ukraine;
absence of criminal record;
valid passport or identity document.
'The list of positions which cannot be taken by foreigners, is determined by the decree of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,' the statement reads.
Moreover, the foreigners should bear a trial period of two months in Ukrainian army.
