On Monday, NATO troops are to start their sea exercises Baltops 2016. They will land on the territory of Finland for the first time.

They will practice landing and fighting on the polygon of Syndalen that is located on the Hanko peninsula.

American parachute infantry fighting vehicles, 200 soldiers from the US Marine Corps, 60 British and 50 German soldiers and reconnaissance troops from Italy will be deployed there.

The USS Carter Hall and the HMS Queen will be involved into the operation.

The Finnish exercises will be carried out due to the fact that the conditions of combat operations at its low-lying coast differ from the conditions of other states of the Baltic Sea.

Baltops is the largest annual military exercise in the Baltic Sea. It is to take place for the 44th time on June 3-19 this year. Finland has been participating there for about 20 years, but it is the first time the event is to be held on its territory.
