Trump wrongly claimed that 'Syrian refugees are being relocated in large numbers to New Mexico'

After New Mexico’s Republican governor Susana Martinez -  the nation’s first Hispanic female governor - declined to attend Trump’s rally in Albuquerque, he slammed her.

According to WTSP, his criticism of her effort to keep Syrian refugees out of New Mexico was way off base.

Governor Susana Martinez said she was 'really busy.'

And Donald Trump claimed 'Syrian refugees are being relocated in large numbers to New Mexico', and saying 'if I was governor' the resettlement of Syrian refugees in New Mexico 'wouldn’t be happening.'

But these claims are wrong, WTSP reported.

American political commentator, economist, professor, and author Robert Reich shared on Facebook:

'In fact, 10 Syrian refugees have been relocated to New Mexico and in fact, governors have no legal authority to bar refugees from relocation to their state since resettlement is under federal law.

Martinez has criticized some of Trump’s immigration remarks and, according to the Albuquerque Journal, been 'noncommittal as to whether she will support him.' But how long will she and the few other principled Republican leaders who have held off supporting him continue to do so?

Trump is using lies, intimidation, bigotry, and fear to gain power. The world has witnessed this before. All of us - Democrats, Republicans, Independents, those of us who love America and the values that have made this nation great - must stand up to this tyrant.'
