Following Russia’s doping scandal the International Olympic Committee has decided to check the doping tests of the athletes who took part not only in the Sochi Olympic Games, but the previous Olympics up to 2008.
The tests’ results of the 2012 Summer Olympics’s participants were announced the day before. The checking of eight Russian athletes gave a positive result.
This was officially reported on the website of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
'The International Olympic Committee has officially notified the Russian Olympic Committee that the results of the doping samples’ cross-checking taken during the 2012 Olympic Games in London turned out to be positive in relation to eight Russian athletes in three sports,' the statement reads.
The caught athletes’ names still are unknown. According to regulations, this information is secret until the opening announcement of the results of B sample and the official start of the disciplinary procedure. If the B samples’ analysis confirm the results of A samples (which is very likely), the Russian athletes will be disqualified, and their sports awards and titles will be withdrawn.
