Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko took part in a solemn ceremony to see off Ukrainian national team for the European Championship 2016. He stated that the opportunity to sing the national anthem under the yellow-blue flags in Donetsk will appear in the nearest future.
On May 22, the President of Ukraine spoke at the ceremony of the Ukrainian team seeing-off for the European Championship 2016. The ceremony was held at St. Michael's Square in Kiev.
'I still have the Euro-2012 in front of my eyes. What was the brightest event of this championship for me? It’s not the events on the football field, but Donetsk at 2 a.m. dressed in blue and yellow colors and singing Ukrainian national anthem,' the head of the state confessed.
According to the politician, it was the moment, when Donetsk and the whole Ukraine united once and forever.
'And I am sure that football plays the same important role, and we have all the opportunities to sing a football anthem, the Ukrainian anthem in Donetsk under the yellow and blue colors in the nearest future,' Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko has noted that they were fighting against barbarians and terrorists, protecting the whole European civilization.
'Right now, Ukraine is in a fight against the aggressor, terrorists and barbarians, defending the interests of the whole European civilization. The Revolution itself meant the country’s striving for Europe, and now Kyiv is fighting for Europe’s future in its struggle against Russian aggression,' the President said.
