The USA has stirred up a scandal in connection with Facebook network’s accusations of manipulation of information for political reasons. Facebook in its turn says that it's a platform for all the political powers.

Facebook network has come under pressure after reports that it allegedly carefully filtered the materials of conservative media in favor of the liberal ones. For the USA 'liberal' outlets mean the media of the left side of the political spectrum and supporters of the Democratic Party, unlike the traditional Republican supporters of capitalism.

On May 9, Gizmodo had a talk with former Facebook employees and said that the administration of the social network regularly limited spreading of the news which could be interesting for conservative readers. At the same time, the news in favor of the liberal camp were promoted artificially, even if they were not popular enough, Gizmodo claimed.

'The most anxious fact is that such a power is used to keep silent about the view and materials that don’t meet someone's agenda,' the Republican National Committee noted. The chief editor of the Breitbart News Alexander Marlow stated that Gizmodo’s information 'confirms longstanding suspicions of the conservatives.'

'In addition to promoting the persecution of the right, this is the key reminder of the content control risk from Silicon Valley,' a former The Guardian’s journalist Glenn Greenwald claimed. The danger of manipulation of information through social networks was noted by several outlets.

A spokeswoman for Facebook in her turn said that the social network followed strict principles 'to provide consistency and neutrality' and took into account every point of view.

'We take accusations of bias very seriously,' the statement reads. 'Facebook is a platform for people and the views of all the political spectrum,' the company stressed.

Facebook has 222 million active users in the United States and Canada every month. At the same time, the survey, conducted in 2015 by the Pew Research Center and the Knight Foundation revealed that 63% Facebook users take the network as a news source.
