In many countries, Teachers' Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.
National Teacher Day is on Tuesday during Teacher Appreciation Week, which takes place in the first full week of May.
The White House shared on Facebook:
'The men and women who teach our children fulfill the promise of a nation that's always looking forward, that believes each generation has a responsibility to help the next in building this great country of ours and making the world a better place. President Kennedy said, 'Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education.' Now, the school where Jahana teaches happens to bear President Kennedy’s name. And it’s fitting then that the perspective, the approach that she brings to the classroom suits the philosophy that he articulated.' —President Obama on the 2016 National Teacher
Hillary Clinton shared :
'Teachers don't just educate our kids—they inspire them to work hard and chase their dreams. So let's give them more than a pat on the back. They deserve a raise.'
Congressman John Garamendi shared:
'In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, take a moment to Thank A Teacher for making a difference in your life. Here's my story about my favorite teacher, Mr. Jack Lodato.
This year, I would also like to give a special thank you to all the art teachers who took part in this year's Congressional Art Competition. My office received a record breaking 85 pieces this year and it wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and effort of these extraordinary teachers!'
The senior United States Senator from Alaska Lisa Murkowski shared:
'Happy Teacher Appreciation Day, Alaska! We all know teachers who made a positive difference in our lives. I thank Alaska’s teachers today and every day for their hard work and dedication to Alaska’s young people and to our state’s future.'
Senator Mike Nozzolio also shared on Facebook:
'This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and TODAY is National Teacher Day!Celebrate by commenting below to thank a teacher who has inspired you or someone you know. Thank you to all of our teachers!'
Students often show appreciation for their teachers with gifts or thank-you cards. The National Education Association (NEA) describes National Teacher Day as 'a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.'
