The President Petro Poroshenko ordered to create a Chornobyl radiation-ecological biosphere reserve.
It has been reported on the President’s website.
“A newly created biosphere reserve will become one of the largest with a total area of 227,000 hectares,” the message reads.
It will be located in the territory of Ivankivskiy and Poliskiy districts of Kyiv region within the exclusion zone and zone of obligatory resettlement after the Chornobyl disaster.
It is also noted that the creation of this biosphere reserve “became the first significant step towards the resurgence of territories that were affected by radioactive contamination as a result of the technogenic catastrophe.”
As it is known, the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl tragedy has been recently commemorated in Ukraine.
Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine announced its intentions to create a biosphere reserve earlier on.
