U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt has visited the memorial to victims of bombardments in Mariupol, Donetsk region.
Geoffrey Pyatt : 'Coming here is an opportunity to commemorate the innocent victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine. Mariupol is already the most important symbol of the resilience and unity of Ukrainian Donbas. It is also an event that inspires to carry on working as hard as we can to see the full and complete implementation of the Minsk agreements to stop this horrible and senseless violence. The international community would never forget who was the agressor in that conflict.'
Geoffrey R. Pyatt is the United States Ambassador to Ukraine. Pyatt's U.S. State Department career landed him posts in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Pyatt supported the 2014 Ukrainian revolution against Ukraine's President Victor Yanukovych.
Also, U.S. Ambassador characterised pro-Russian separatist rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk as 'terrorists'.
