The highest water level recorded in one of the city districts is 12 meters. The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, introduced the state of emergency in the biggest city of the state, Houston, where the flood has taken the lives of four people.
Pouring rains caused the huge flood – as the meteorologists said, 44.7 cm. of precipitation was recorded in the city only on Monday. The highest water level recorded in one of the city districts is 12 meters.
The rivers overflowed in the center of Houston, having flooded more than thousand houses and having left 70 thousand people without electricity. 1200 people were evacuated from the disaster area. The large Trade Centre was transformed into a temporary refuge.
The city authorities recommend the drivers to avoid the high floorage: at least one of the dead was found in the flooded car, the local media informs.
The other danger for people is poisonous snakes and insects, which teem on the surface of the water.
According to the words of the Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, the rains are expected to finish on Tuesday.
