According to the Kremlin website, at the USA’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the United States of America Barack Obama.

US President Barack Obama thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin during the telephone conversation for the help in freeing American citizen Kevin Dawes, who had been kept in captivity in Syria.

Kevin Dawes was immediately transported to the American Embassy in Moscow. The Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova said that Obama asked Putin to assist in the photographer's release.

Dawes was transported to Moscow by the military-transport aircraft, on April 1.

The photographer was detained in Syria for "illegal entry". Syrian authorities have agreed to release him on Russia's request for "humanitarian reasons."
