The incident with the Russian Su-24’s flight over the Donald Cook destroyer in the Baltic Sea could have tragic consequences. The US militaries could respond to Russian provocation with a strike, US Secretary of State John Kerry said.

According to the politician, the US militaries had a legitimate reason to open fire against the provoking pilots, Rossiyskiy Dialog writes.

"We condemn this behavior. It is irresponsible. It is provocative. And according to the rules of engagement, we could bring down (the planes - Ed.)," he said.

Commenting on the incident, Kerry made it clear that the Kremlin’s playing with fire could end in a loss in the near future. He emphasized that such provocative behavior is unacceptable and definitely will be punished. The politician did not explain the reason the American pilots hadn’t opened fire.

On April 13, Russian Su-24 jets flew at extremely minimal distance to the guided missile destroyer Donald Cook. On April 10, Russian militaries also demonstrated similar behavior.
