Stephen Hawking is a theoretical physicist, famous popularizer of science and author of "A Brief History of Time" that has sold over 10 million copies. He studied the origin of cosmological singularity – the initial state of the universe.
In 1963, 22-year-old Hawking was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The doctors then believed that he would have only two or three years to live. However, their expectations were wrong, because the scientist continued his work, married two times and became the father of three. Hawking is completely paralyzed, but he has an active life – he is engaged in science, gives lectures and makes speeches, communicating with the whole world via speech synthesizer. Earlier, an outstanding biographical drama film The Theory of Everything, based on the book Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen written by the physicist’s ex-wife Jane Wilde Hawking, was released. The movie tells the scientist’s life story.
Sina Weibo microblogging service is similar to Twitter and has more than 500 million users. It was launched in 2009.
