In 2015, 1634 persons were executed all over the world. The number of executions worldwide has increased dramatically and reached the highest figure recorded since 1989, Amnesty International says.
According to the human rights organization’s press release, 1634 persons were executed in 2015. This is 50% more than in 2014.
89% of the executions were carried out in Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The statistics doesn’t include the number of people who were executed by Chinese government, because this information hasn’t been revealed by Chinese authorities.
However, China is thought to execute thousands of its citizens, Amnesty International claims. Human rights activists are sure that China is the leader in the number of executions.
At the same time, human rights activists say that 2015 was the first year in history, when the death penalty became forbidden in most countries.
