Warner Bros. has tapped Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to adapt Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the horror classic The Shining

"Doctor Sleep" film adaptation will be a continuation of the famous motion picture based on King’s book "The Shining." It is reported that Stephen King will be an executive producer of this project.

Akiva Goldsman, who obtained the "Oscar" for his scenario for "A Beautiful Mind", will act as a screenwriter. The cast information has not been disclosed yet.

“Doctor Sleep” is a sequel to King's novel “The Shining” (1977), which was published in September 2013. Doctor Sleep reached the first position on The New York Times Best Seller lists for print and ebook fiction (combined), hardcover fiction, and ebook fiction. “Doctor Sleep” won the 2013 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.

“The Shining” is a 1980 British-American psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, co-written with novelist Diane Johnson, and starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, and Scatman Crothers. The film is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel “The Shining”, although screen adaptation significantly differs from the original book.
